About Pathways

In the spring of 2005 a task group of nine faculty members evaluated FSU’s academic productivity and recognition as viewed in the context of the Phase I and Phase II indicators for membership in the Association of American Universities (AAU) and the standards used by the National Research Council for evaluating doctoral programs.

Based on their recommendations, President T.K. Wetherell inaugurated the Pathways of Excellence Initiative in September 2005. The Pathways Initiative consists of a series of goals for the University including dramatic enhancements in Federal grant expenditures and awards, scholarly productivity, graduate program and faculty recognition and breadth and number of Ph.D. graduates.

These goals are linked to major investments in our cadre of faculty in which 200 new tenured and tenure-track scholars will be hired in Academic Clusters. These investments will significantly enhance our Ph.D. Programs. Additional investments will be made in the creation of New Facilities for research and creative activities. Pathways is intended to have a transformational impact on the University.
