In 2004, the 1920’s era former athletic building Montgomery Gym underwent a $17 million retrofitting. Included in the renovations was the construction of the Nancy Smith Fichter Dance Theatre, one of the most modern and comprehensive academic dance facilities in United States.

The theatre has fixed seating for 370 that begins at the stage floor and rises to approximately 15 feet above the floor. The illuminated performance area is greater than 1,000 square feet. The stage floor consists of a Harlequin Liberty sprung panel system with a black Harlequin Studio dance floor. The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art lighting, sound and video projection capabilities. Auxilliary spaces include dressing rooms, a student lounge and conditioning and rehearsing studios.
